Kafka by the Sea

Fifteen-year-old Kafka flees his father's curse for the remote island of Shikoku. Mr. Nakata, an illiterate old man who can talk to cats, and a young driver with a ponytail who likes Hawaiian shirts, hitchhike there independently. Kafka's father is murdered, and the police are searching for all three. After encounters with Mimi, a cat who loves Puccini's operas, Johnnie Walker, and other fantastical characters, the characters eventually find themselves in a mysterious private library where time has stood still. At night, it is visited by the ghost of a young girl in a blue dress.
