We all keep secrets, even from ourselves.
For Mariana Andros, a group therapist struggling with her own past demons, Cambridge is where she met her husband. For her niece, Zoe, it's the tragic scene of her best friend's murder. Within the university walls, where memories come alive, Mariana encounters a secret society of young women – the Goddesses. Its members are shaken by the murder of one of their classmates. The group is under the influence of the enigmatic Professor Edward Foska. Mariana is certain that, although Foska has an alibi, he is the perpetrator.
Mariana's obsession with proving Fosca's guilt spirals out of control, threatening to destroy her credibility and her closest relationships. She is determined to stop the killer, even if it costs her everything—including her own life.

Full-size heroes
The novel "Goddesses" is a blend of drama, action, mystery, and a study of obsession. The author focuses on both the crime plot and the psychological layer. There are compelling characters here – a confused therapist who decides to become an amateur detective, a confident lecturer harboring a secret, and students reeling from the death of a brutally murdered colleague. Each character struggles with emotional and psychological issues. They are no strangers to childhood trauma, loneliness, marital problems, and the death of a loved one and the ensuing grief.
The Story of a Murderer
The book "Goddesses" is narrated in the third person. However, between the chapters, there are excerpts from a first-person diary written by the murderer. He recounts his fascination with death, pain, and hatred. He reveals the defense mechanisms that have helped him survive over the years. His true motivations are revealed, as are the past events that left a profound mark on him. This allows us to understand the process of his personality transformation.
In Alex Michaelides's "Goddesses" there is also no shortage of references to Greek mythology, which is associated with evoking the mystery of transcendence, life and death.
Mariana will attempt to solve the murder mystery armed only with instinct and her knowledge of human nature. Where will her stubbornness lead her? The answer to this question lies hidden within the pages of the novel "Goddesses."
